Gate E1Cargo
One-page PRD template
A single-screen PRD I use for features that need a clear owner and a shipping date, not a novel.
Long PRDs get skimmed. Short ones get read and argued with. This is the version I keep coming back to.
Copy it, replace the italics, delete anything that doesn't apply.
Feature: One line — what is this? Owner: Name + role Ship target: Quarter or date range Status: Draft / In review / Approved / Building / Shipped
Problem
What is broken today, for whom, and how do we know? One paragraph. Cite the data or the customer conversation you're drawing from.
Who this is for
The primary user or segment. If more than one, pick the primary and mention secondary ones in a line.
What we will ship
The scope. Three to five bullets. If a bullet needs a sub-list, it's probably too vague — break it up.
What we will not ship
The explicit non-goals. This section prevents scope creep more than any other.
Success looks like
Two or three metrics. Each with a baseline, a target, and how you measure it. If you can't measure it, say so.
Open questions
Anything you'd need answered before starting. If there are more than five, this feature isn't ready for a PRD yet.
Rollout plan
One paragraph. Internal → beta → GA, or whatever your team uses. Include the rollback trigger.
That's the whole template. If a PRD is longer than one page, either the feature is actually two features or the team hasn't decided yet what it wants.
